In a letter to Irakli Garibashvili (Prime Minister of Georgia), Joseph R. Biden wished the Georgians a Happy Independence Day. In the letter of congratulations, it is noted that the US will continue its support for the people in Georgia as a committed and loyal partner.
“Dear Prime Minister, I would like to wish you and your Georgian counterparts a happy and health Independence Day on the 26th of May on behalf of Americans.
“As a committed and reliable partner, the US will continue its support for the people of Georgia in their pursuit of greater democratic and economic growth, including the promotion and development of an independent judiciary, inclusive democratic processes, and a democratic process that is open to all.” We will stand by the Georgian people in their efforts to recover from the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic.
“The anniversary is not just a day to celebrate, but also a time to reflect on the past and values that have shaped the nation and look forward to the future. Know that the United States is with you as Georgian leaders and citizens reflect on ways to strengthen Georgia’s independence and advance its Euro-Atlantic ambitions this year. The United States is grateful to Georgian soldiers for their bravery in Afghanistan. We will continue to support Georgia’s NATO membership.
“We also acknowledge significant external challenges Georgia continues to face. Today, my thoughts are with those who live under Russian occupation in Abkhazia or South Ossetia. The United States is committed to Georgian territorial integrity and sovereignty, within internationally recognized borders.
