**US Says No to Returning Nuclear Weapons to Ukraine**
The United States has made it clear that they will not return nuclear weapons to Ukraine. This was stated by Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser.
Sullivan’s comments were in response to recent speculation from some Western officials and media outlets about a potential transfer of nuclear arms to Ukraine. However, Sullivan said this is “not under consideration”.
Instead, the US plans to send conventional military equipment to Ukraine so that they can defend themselves against Russia. This move comes as Ukraine faces a full-scale invasion by Russian forces.
**Background**
Ukraine inherited nuclear weapons after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. However, they gave up their nuclear arms under an agreement with the US, UK, and Russia in 1994. In exchange for this disarmament, these countries provided security assurances to Ukraine.
Russia has previously called the idea of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine “absolute insanity”.
