U.S. Treasury Secretary Visits Ukraine
On February 12, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. During the meeting, Bessent handed over a draft of an agreement between the two countries on critical minerals.
The agreement aims to allow U.S. companies to access Ukraine’s rare earth mineral reserves in exchange for continued support from Washington. This is in line with previous statements made by Ukrainian President Zelensky, who said he was open to such an arrangement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his interest in the agreement and promised that his team would work quickly to finalize it. He also thanked the U.S. for their support and aid to Ukraine.
This meeting is significant as it marks the first time a representative from the new U.S. administration has met with Ukrainian officials since President Donald Trump‘s return to the White House.
