US Officials Urge Ukraine to Lower Conscription Age
Ukraine is facing a difficult situation in the ongoing war with Russia. US officials are now suggesting that Ukraine lower its military conscription age from 25 to 18. This move would help address critical manpower shortages, allowing Ukraine to bring in more soldiers.
Russian forces have been advancing at a steady pace, capturing large areas of land in recent weeks. In the past month alone, they have taken an area roughly half the size of London. Ukraine is struggling to keep up with Russia’s steady flow of new soldiers, who replace their losses every month.
A US administration official spoke anonymously to The Telegraph, saying that Russian forces are making progress and pushing back Ukrainian lines in Kursk. The official believes that increased mobilization could have a significant impact on the current battlefield situation.
Ukraine had already lowered its mobilization age from 27 to 25 earlier this year. However, US officials now propose going even further, suggesting that Ukraine bring in soldiers as young as 18. A source close to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office expressed concerns about equipment limitations, saying that Ukraine does not have enough armored vehicles or other essential supplies to support the troops.
