**North Korean Troops Suffer Casualties in Russia**
The US government has confirmed that North Korean troops have been involved in fighting with Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. This is the first time North Korean soldiers have engaged in combat alongside Russian forces.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, North Korean troops started active operations against Ukrainian forces on December 14, 2024. Video evidence has also been released showing these attacks.
**US Warns Against Escalation**
The US State Department has warned that if North Korean forces were to cross into Ukraine, it would be considered a significant escalation. This could lead to further conflict and consequences for both Russia and North Korea.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “North Korean soldiers who are deployed to Kursk are already legitimate targets… If they were to cross the border into Ukraine, that would be yet another escalation by the Government of Russia and also an escalation by the Government of North Korea.”
**Casualties Reported**
Reports suggest that North Korean units have lost at least 30 soldiers killed or wounded in recent battles with Ukrainian forces. Afterward, they suffered up to 250 casualties during infantry assaults.
The Pentagon has confirmed that North Korean troops are involved in combat alongside Russian forces for the first time.
