**North Korea Gaining Combat Experience in Ukraine**
North Korea is getting valuable military experience from its troops fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. This makes it more capable of waging war against neighboring countries, a US official said on January 8.
According to the deputy US ambassador to the UN, over 12,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia and have been engaging Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region since last month. The official warned that this is significantly benefiting North Korea, making it more capable of waging war against its neighbors.

On January 8, North Korea’s UN ambassador defended a recent missile test as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s defense. He accused the US of hypocrisy in condemning the test while supporting Israel’s military actions.
Russia’s UN ambassador repeated claims that the US and other countries provoke North Korea through military drills. The South Korean UN ambassador condemned North Korea’s deployment of soldiers to Russia, calling them “slaves” to Kim Jong-un.
