**US Agency Reverses Decision to Cut Funding for Radio Station**
The US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) has changed its mind about cutting funding for the radio station Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). This decision was made on March 27, according to RFE/RL.
**Court Stops Funding Cut**
A US court had already blocked the funding cut by ordering a temporary stop. The court said that the move by USAGM to cut congressionally approved funds for RFE/RL was not allowed.
**Funding Was Originally Cut**
The original decision to cut funding was made earlier this month after President Donald Trump ordered the dismantling of USAGM, which oversees several media outlets including RFE/RL and Voice of America. However, a lawsuit by RFE/RL claimed that this action was against federal law and asked for access to $77 million in approved funds.
**RFE/RL Seeks Long-Term Stability**
The president of RFE/RL, Stephen Capus, welcomed the reversal but said that formal confirmation from USAGM is needed. He emphasized the importance of keeping RFE/RL operational during these uncertain times.
**Radio Station’s Importance**
RFE/RL was created to counter Soviet propaganda and has been providing news coverage for Eastern Bloc countries. It continues to serve countries in Central Asia, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and others.
