Vakhtang Gomelauri, a candidate for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, says he has not faced any problems due to US sanctions.
Gomelauri made this statement in parliament. A journalist asked him about potential US sanctions and if they had caused any financial or visa issues for him.
Gomelauri replied that there are no sanctions against him. He said that he has not received any notice from the US government and has not faced any problems traveling to Europe or transferring money.
When asked how he would feel if the US imposed sanctions on him, Gomelauri said it would be unpleasant but that everything would eventually be sorted out. He described the US as a “friend” of Georgia’s and expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would remain strong.
Gomelauri also mentioned that he had not been to the US for five years, since leaving his position as head of the security service.
