New Laws in Georgia: A Threat to the Resistance Movement
The ruling party, Georgian Dream, has introduced new laws that will affect members of the resistance movement more than political opponents. This was stated by Vakhtang Menabde, a member of the “Social Democracy for Georgia” movement.
According to Menabde, these new laws are an attempt to stigmatize and discredit individuals who present a threat to Georgian Dream. He believes that the ruling party is trying to suppress protests using existing legal framework. Menabde also stated that justice does not function in the country today, and that there is only a political confrontation between the resistance movement and the regime.
The new laws will target individuals who pose a greater threat to the ruling party. Currently, 50 people are being held as political prisoners, none of whom have any connection to politics. Menabde believes that these new laws will be used to suppress ongoing protests and keep them under control.
The “Social Democracy for Georgia” movement was founded on February 17th. Its main goal is to strengthen the existing protest movements and transform the resistance into a coalition of small groups. The movement aims to support and empower various social groups, and believes that unity is necessary in order to achieve change.
Vakhtang Menabde also addressed the case of Mzia Amaglobeli, a constitutional expert who has been detained by the government. He criticized the treatment of detainees, stating that it shows no regard for human life or health. Menabde believes that the charges against Amaglobeli are unjust and that she should be released.
