Vice PM and Finance Minister Ivane Makavariani resigns

Ivane Machavariani, the Minister of Finance for , announced his resignation via social media.
“We have successfully concluded negotiations with the International Monetary Fund on the eighth review program supported by the Extended Fund Facility. “After its approval at the Executive Board meeting of the Fund, additional resources will be made available for Georgia,” he wrote.
“Georgia was one of the first nations receive significant assistance from partners ( International Monetary Fund and EU) shortly after global pandemic began. I am particularly proud that I was able to play a role in these negotiations.
“I am announcing resignation as Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance. I must admit that I had planned to resign as Minister of Finance at the end last year after working for almost three years. However, due to the 2021 Crisis Approval Procedure and important negotiations with IMF, I decided to delay my move by several months.
“It was both an honor and a responsibility for me to work with the Georgian Dream team of politicians – with the government leaders, my colleagues in the cabinet of ministers, and with members of the parliament.
“I wish the Prime Minister, the members of the Government and the political “Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia” success as they overcome all the challenges that our country faces today.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of our partners, including the heads and regional offices of international financial institutions and donor organizations as well as the corps in Georgia for their active support and cooperation. We were able, with their help, to find a large amount of resources in response to the pandemic. It was a great pleasure to be able to work with them on a daily, practical basis to help develop our country.
“I would like to thank the excellent team of for the cooperation. A team that is distinguished by its high level of competence, good will and dedication to their work. Each member of the Central Office of the Ministry of Finance is to be thanked for their hard work.
Ivane Machavariani wrote: “It was a pleasure to work with you.”
He was appointed vice prime minister in 2021 and became Minister of Finance 12, 2018.
