The Associated Press reported that on November 6, Ukrainian-American Victoria Spartz would return to Congress as Indiana’s 5th Congress district.
Spartz, who was endorsed by gun-owners associations and pro-life groups, won her district with 57% of the vote. She had a 20-point lead over the second candidate.
She was born in Ukraine but did not vote in favor of the Senate Foreign Aid Bill that included more than $60 billion for Ukraine’s assistance in April 2024.
Spartz was raised in a small town in Chernihiv Oblast and moved to the United States in 2000. She became the first Ukrainian born member of Congress in 2020 and is known for her staunch backing of former President Donald Trump.
Spartz initially supported aid to Ukraine and spoke about the war in deeply emotional terms. However, she also drew controversy for her attacks on President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yeermak.
On Nov. 5, the U.S. holds Congressional, Senate, and Presidential elections on the same date.
Former President Donald Trump is on the verge of a victory. Republicans are also gaining a Senate majority.
The election results will have a profound effect on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Harris has pledged that she will continue to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom, but many are afraid that Trump may cut a deal, possibly at the expense of painful concessions from Ukraine.
Donald Trump addressed a crowd of cheering supporters, saying: “I want thank the American people. I am honored to be elected as your 47th President and your 45th President.” The count is still ongoing, so his win hasn’t been officially declared.

Pennsylvania, a pivotal state with a large Ukrainian community, played a major role in the U.S. presidential elections of 2024. Both candidates have aggressively campaigned in the state. Trump and Harris held dueling rallies the night before the election.
Ukraine’s commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on Nov. 6 that Russian forces had suffered 7,905 deaths, 12,220 injuries, and 717 captures during the almost three-month-long Kursk incursion.
