**Drone Attacks Hit Russian Airbase in Millerovo**
Multiple drone attacks were reported on December 23 targeting the city of Millerovo in Russia’s Rostov Oblast. This area is close to Ukraine and has a strategic military airfield.
The airbase, called Millerovo Airbase, is located near the Ukrainian border. It hosts fighter jets and has been targeted by drones before. In July, an attack destroyed a fuel depot and an aviation hangar at the base.
**Russian Defense Systems Engaged Drone Targets**
According to local officials, air defense systems started engaging drone targets around 8pm local time. Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar said that eight drones were shot down in the Millerovo area by 9:30pm.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed nine drones over Rostov Oblast and two more over the Sea of Azov. Local videos showed explosions, flashes in the sky, and fires on the ground.
**Unclear Damage**
It is unclear what damage was done during the attack. Andrii Kovalenko, a Ukrainian official, said that a “disco” (likely meaning an intense drone attack) was taking place at Millerovo Airbase. He stated that the base hosts tactical aviation supporting Russian ground forces in eastern and southern Ukraine.
