**International Volunteers Join Ukraine’s Fight Against Russia**
A significant number of international recruits are joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Around 40% of these new soldiers come from South America. They are helping to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces.
The chief specialist in charge of foreign military service, Lieutenant Colonel Konstantin Milevsky, says that volunteers from all over the world are fighting alongside Ukraine on the front lines. He notes that representatives from more than 70 countries are currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
**The Ukrainian Legion of Volunteers**
The Ukrainian Legion of Volunteers is a special unit made up of foreign nationals who have volunteered to fight for Ukraine. This group was formed in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, allowing non-Ukrainian citizens to join Ukraine’s armed forces and defend the country.
**Recruitment Process**
Milevsky explains that around 400-600 foreign recruits join the Ukrainian military each month. However, not all of them are accepted after a series of physical training, medical evaluations, and selection stages. He notes that those with military or police experience from the past ten years can bypass basic training and join a unit directly.
**Motivations**
The motivations for joining the Ukrainian Legion vary. Some recruits do it for financial incentives or to gain experience. Others are motivated by the desire for challenges, Ukrainian citizenship, or even hatred towards Russia. Despite these different reasons, Milevsky notes that the quality of service from foreign volunteers is on par with that of Ukrainian soldiers.
**Poland‘s Support**
Earlier this year, Poland announced its readiness to begin training Ukrainian volunteers for the Ukrainian Legion. A recruitment center in Poland started operations in October, coinciding with the Day of Defenders.
