Serbia’s Prime Minister Steps Down: What’s Next?
Milos Vucevic, Serbia‘s outgoing Prime Minister, made a statement in Krupanj, western Serbia. He said he expects the situation surrounding protests and blockades to be resolved within two weeks.
Vucevic thinks that protesters will not succeed in overthrowing the government on March 15, when a rally is planned in Belgrade. “You can’t topple a state with just 10,000 or 20,000 people,” he said. “That’s absurd.”
He warned that Serbia could face serious economic damage because of the blockades and protests over the past four months. Vucevic believes this has scared off investors.
Protests Continue
Locals booed Vucevic in Krupanj when he arrived at a gathering of supporters. Police were present, but no clashes occurred. The Prime Minister was also booed on Saturday at a party event in Srbobran, Vojvodina.
Vucevic thinks the protests and blockades are not effective. “Booing doesn’t increase salaries or pensions,” he said. He’s touring Serbia to talk about his party’s goals and policies.
