**Serbian President Blames Construction Industry for Railway Station Tragedy**
A concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station collapsed, killing 15 people. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the construction industry was to blame.
He spoke on independent TV channel Insajder about the tragedy. “The awning collapsed because of mistakes by experts,” he said. He denied that corruption played a role in the disaster.
Vucic explained that the awning had not been properly rebuilt, which led to its collapse. He said it was essential to review what went wrong so that such tragedies can be prevented or minimized in the future.
The President promised that those responsible for the tragedy would face justice. He also expressed his support for the families of the victims and called for help to be given to them.
Vucic defended an inter-state agreement with China under which the reconstruction of Novi Sad Railway Station was done. However, he acknowledged that similar agreements were signed by previous authorities.
**Corruption Not Involved**
The President denied any involvement of corruption in the tragedy. He stated that inter-state agreements have priority and are not subject to tenders. He also pointed out that a significant number of projects in Serbia are done under such agreements.
Vucic expressed his anger towards corruption, saying it makes him furious.
