Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has spoken out about the planned protest on March 15. He said that students plan to take over parliament and state TV, and force him to agree to a transitional government.
The president made his comments to the governing body of the Serbian Progressive Party. He warned that protesters will not be able to overthrow the president because they know it would lead to conflict with the military and other groups.
Vucic said there are only 5 days left until the planned protest. He described it as an attempt at revolution and a threat to the country’s constitutional order. This, he said, is one of the most serious crimes under Serbian law.
Students from across Serbia have been marching towards the capital city of Belgrade for the mass gathering on March 15. The protesters’ main demand will be for a transitional government once they take control of institutions.
Vucic stressed that the protesters cannot take over the presidency, but will try to surround it and force him to agree to their demands. He said he would never agree to a transitional government as long as he lives.
