The support for student protests and opposition is declining, according to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Vucic said that protesters are becoming more aggressive and nervous as they try to find a way out of their situation. He also criticized the tendency to idolize students, saying it’s ridiculous and not productive.
“The schools exist so teachers can teach children, universities for professors to educate students,” Vucic said. “But now people care more about us learning from the children than whether the kids are actually learning.”
Vucic didn’t directly mention the student protests in his comments, but he described a group that demands answers from institutions without engaging with them as using “CIA tactics.” He also suggested that they were taught to behave this way.
**Assault on Belgrade Law School Students**
The president denied any involvement in a recent assault on students at the Belgrade Law School. Instead, he said the students fought each other while under the influence of alcohol.
**Education Workers‘ Unions**
Vucic announced that education workers’ unions had reached an agreement with the government on salary increases. He described it as the largest increase ever and warned that anyone who unlawfully suspends classes will face legal consequences.
The president also claimed that university professors haven’t earned their salaries, saying they are now enjoying themselves on ski trips. He suggested that the protests are aimed at protecting the capital of Dragan Solak, co-owner of United Group.
