Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic says that the country may lose access to important oil imports from Friday. This is because talks with the US to prevent sanctions have failed.
The US has a waiver on sanctions that expires at midnight. If it is not extended, the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) will face cuts in crude supply. NIS operates Serbia’s only oil refinery.
The refinery has an annual capacity of 4.8 million tons and meets most of the country’s energy needs. President Vucic told a news source that he did not expect a last-minute deal with the Americans.
