Will the Middle East conflict affect Iran’s ability to supply ballistic missiles into Russia? It’s complicated

Experts say that Iran may also need these missiles if a larger war breaks out in the Middle East.

The escalating tensions between the Middle East and Russia are not expected to affect the supply of ballistic rockets from Iran that Russia received last month, but there could be longer-term issues.
Iran launched its biggest-ever aerial assault against Israel on October 1, with nearly 200 rockets fired that same day, sparking fear of a wider war in the area.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), 180 were ballistic missiles.
This raises the question: Will the recent increase in Iran’s need for ballistics missiles have an impact on the relatively new supply of them to Russia.
Fabian Hinz is a research fellow for military and defense analysis at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. He says the answer to this question is “a bit complicated.”
Although reports over the past few months have mentioned several different candidates as to the type of missiles Iran is sending Russia, Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed last month that it was the Fath-360.
The Fath-360 ballistic missile has a range of up to 120 kilometers and a warhead weighing 150 kilograms.
Fath-360s are of little use in a war between Israel and Iran, as the distance between them is only around 1,000 km.
If the U.S. got involved and Iran wanted target in the region they would be of little help.
Hinz told The Kyiv Independent that Iran has other models designed specifically for this purpose.
Tehran claimed that it used four different types ballistic missiles in the attack. These were the Emad, Ghadr and Kheibar Shekan. All of these missiles have a range that can reach Israel.
Hinz stated that “the kind of missiles Iran uses to attack Israel was never really on the table as a use in Ukraine, because the range wasn’t what the needed.” Moscow will use Iran’s Fath-360 tactical system to strike critical assets, such as logistics bases, weapons depots and air defense systems, in the rear area.
