Russian forces terrorize Kherson residents with small drones and mines. Between July and October 2024, 133 people were killed and 1,350 injured.
The Washington Post reports that Russian forces have turned the southern Ukrainian city Kherson into a dangerous ‘human safari’, systematically targeting civilians with intense drone attacks.
Kherson, the first major Ukrainian town captured by Russia during the 2022 invasion, was occupied for nine months before it was liberated in November of that same year. Since then, Russian forces continue to exert pressure on the region from across the river. They have launched regular attacks. By mid-2024 drones in Kherson Oblast had evolved from surveillance systems to weaponized systems that increasingly targeted civilians.
According to the Kherson Military Administration, between July 2024 and October 2024 these drone strikes killed 133 people, and injured 1,350 others. The attacks are a unique form warfare, with Russian troops positioned just across Dnieper River using small drones to target civilian targets.
According to WP, OleksandrProkudin, regional governor, has reported that there have been nearly 7,000 drone strikes in Kherson Oblast, since August.
