**Mysterious North Korean General Heads to Russia**
A high-ranking North Korean general is heading to Russia. Colonel General Kim Yong Bok will oversee the integration of 10,000 North Korean troops into Russian forces.
Kim’s role in Pyongyang’s military has been kept secret for a long time. He was previously in charge of a special forces unit with 200,000 soldiers who carried out covert missions on the Korean Peninsula.
**Who is Colonel General Kim Yong Bok?**
Kim Yong Bok was listed as one of three North Korean generals commanding troops in Russia during a UN Security Council meeting. The other two generals are Major General Sin Kum Cheol and Colonel General Ri Chang Ho.
In 2020, Kim was seen with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at a ceremony to honor military officials. But he disappeared from public view until recently.
**North Korea‘s Move to Russia**
The deployment of North Korean troops to Russia coincides with the two countries’ new mutual defense treaty. This agreement means that North Korea and Russia will help each other in case of an armed attack.
There have been reports of clashes between Ukrainian forces and North Korean troops in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Western countries, including the US, have denounced the deployment as an escalation.
