Voters in so-called swing states could decide the outcome of the election, potentially reshaping US’s role on the world stage for years to follow.
In seven “swing states” that will decide the outcome of the presidential elections, voters prefer Donald Trump to Kamala Harris when it comes to resolving world wars, including the Middle East conflict and the Russo-Ukrainian War.
The stark contrast in the candidates’ approach to these wars highlights the implications of this election for America’s global position and international stability. Voter preference suggests that US foreign policy could be realigned depending on who becomes president. This could have a wide-ranging impact, including on the outcome of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
According to a survey conducted by The Washington Post on swing-state voters in the US, Trump leads Harris, 50% to 39%.
Regarding the Israel-Hamas War the percentage is 48% versus 34% in Trump’s favor. The Republican nominee has cited his tenure as president as a period of relative peace in the world. He has also claimed, without providing details, that he could quickly resolve both conflicts if he won in November.
Independent voters, who aren’t regular supporters of either political party, also preferred the Republican candidate. Nearly half said Trump was the best candidate to resolve the Russo-Ukrainian War. 43% said that he would be the best candidate to resolve the war between Israel & Hamas.
The WSJ survey was conducted between 28 September and 8 October with 2,100 voters from seven key US states. It has a margin error of 2.1 percent points either way.
In the latest national survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos on 8 October between the two presidential contenders, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris was marginally ahead of Republican Donald Trump – 46% versus 43% – as both candidates remain locked in a tight race to win the US presidential election on 5 November.
The outcome of the elections could have profound implications for both wars, given the wide disagreements between Trump & Harris on how to resolve them.
On one side, Republican opposition to US assistance for Ukraine is growing as its fight against Russia’s full scale invasion is about to enter its fourth year.
Democrats are divided on whether the US should keep arming Israel during its year-long war with Hamas, despite the intensifying criticism over the high civilian casualties in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis.
