WSJ: US bound planes may be targeted in Russian DHL’s incendiary plot

Multiple individuals have been arrested after European investigators uncovered a plot involving incendiary devices concealed massagers in DHL hubs.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Western security officials have discovered a suspected Russian plot involving the deployment of incendiary devices aboard aircraft bound for the . This follows investigation into two devices which ignited at European DHL locations.

Russian intelligence has been implicated with multiple high-profile incidents, including the assassination of Chechen dissidents overseas, a 2018 UK nerve agent attack that killed British citizen Dawn Sturgess and an assassination attempt against Germany’s CEO in this year. Russian-backed arsonists and saboteurs have also targeted sites across the world, including , Slovakia and the Baltic states.
According to security officials, and people familiar with this investigation, the devices that ignited at DHL logistic hubs in , Germany and Birmingham, England, in July, contained electric massagers containing flammable magnesium-based substances.
WSJ reports that the investigation revealed that these incidents were probably part of a larger Russian operation targeting flights in North . Lithuanian authorities arrested a suspect for sending four incendiary items, including two from the DHL shop in Vilnius. According to a European law enforcement official, the suspect, who originally identified himself as Igor Prudnikov was later identified by Alexander Suranovas.
The National Prosecutor’s Office in Poland reports the arrest of 4 individuals accused of participating in terrorist or sabotage operations on behalf a foreign intelligence agency.
