Russian Court Orders Yandex to Remove Oil Refinery Maps and Photos
A Moscow court has ordered Russia’s most popular search engine, Yandex, to remove photos of an oil refinery in one of the Russian regions from online maps. The decision was made due to the threat of Ukrainian drone attacks.
The court ruled that open access to maps and photos of the refinery “undermine the defense capability of the state” and “have a negative impact on the timely supply of materials” to the Russian army.
This is the first time Yandex has been ordered to remove photos and maps of a strategically important facility for the defense industry.
Ukraine has launched several drone strikes targeting Russia’s oil industry over the past year. The oil refinery plant mentioned in the court decision operates in an uninterrupted mode, providing for the needs of the Russian army and navy.
The decision comes amid ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
