The US President-elect discussed with the South Korean leader North Korea‘s recent nuclear developments and missile launches as well as troop deployment to support Russia in Ukraine.
On 7 November, Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korean President, called Donald Trump in the US to congratulate him for his re-election. During their 12-minute phone call, the two leaders discussed various issues, including North Korea’s military involvement in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict, according to Yonhap.
This comes as Russia and North Korea’s ties are strengthening. Since February 2022, Moscow has strengthened military ties with Pyongyang, securing more than 2,000,000 artillery rounds and ballistic missiles. Both countries signed a mutual defence pact in the month of June. South Korea, Ukraine and the US reported around 10,000-12,000 North Korean soldiers deployed to Russia for training. Some of these troops were transferred to the Kursk battle zone.
