**Ukraine’s Former Commander Proposed Incursion into Russia**
In 2022, Ukraine’s former commander-in-chief, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, proposed an attack on Russian territory in the Belgorod Oblast. The plan was similar to a successful cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk region in August 2024.
**Goal of the Incursion**
The goal of the proposed incursion was to protect Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast from Russian attacks. Zaluzhnyi wanted to cut off the Russian military‘s ability to carry out fire and missile strikes on Kharkiv by encircling or blockading them.
**North Korean Troops Fighting in Russia**
Ukraine also has a plan to push back against North Korean troops fighting alongside Russian forces in Kursk Oblast. The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have been taking heavy losses, but they are determined to hold their ground.
**Russian Attack on Civilian Building in Kherson**
In a separate incident, Russian forces bombed a civilian building in the city of Kherson, killing at least four people and injuring many more. Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site.
**Ukraine’s President Proposes Meeting with Trump**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed holding high-level talks with former US President Donald Trump before moving on to peace talks with Russia, the EU, and other international partners.
