**Russian Attack on Ukraine Leaves Nuclear Plant at Risk**
Russian forces have damaged a power line to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southeastern Ukraine. The attack, involving 83 drones and an S-300 missile, has left the plant with only one working power line.
The Zaporizhzhia plant is Europe’s largest and one of the world‘s top ten. It has been under Russian control since 2022. The International Atomic Energy Agency has reported a decline in safety conditions at the facility.
**Emergency Repairs Underway**
Ukraine’s energy operator, Ukrenergo, said they have identified where the damage occurred and are working to repair it. However, the Ministry of Energy warned that the plant is “on the verge of a blackout”.
If the remaining power line fails, the nuclear plant will shut down completely, violating safety protocols and risking an accident.
**Energy Minister Speaks Out**
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, said repair teams have started work to restore the plant’s power supply. He also stressed that only Ukraine regaining control over the plant can ensure its safe operation.
