Russia Continues to Attack Ukraine Despite Ceasefire Agreements
Russian forces launched 117 drones against Ukraine on March 26, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is a clear sign that Russia does not intend to end the war.
Just one day before, the U.S. had brokered a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia on strikes against energy facilities and naval operations in the Black Sea.
Zelensky stated that most of the drones used were Shaheds, and that Ukrainian air defenses shot down 56 of them across the country. However, some drones managed to cause damage and start fires in several regions.
The attacks hit the towns of Okhtyrka and Kryvyi Rih, causing significant damage to buildings and vehicles. At least four civilians were killed and six injured in the Russian attacks.
Zelensky called for stronger action from the world community to stop Russian strikes, saying that launching such large-scale attacks after ceasefire negotiations is a clear signal that Moscow is not interested in real peace.
The U.S. had proposed a 30-day truce with Russia on March 11, but Russia rejected it due to conditions that would have undermined Ukraine’s defenses.
