**Japanese Foreign Minister Visits Ukraine**
On November 16, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. This was Iwaya’s first visit to Ukraine since he became foreign minister in September.
**Ukraine and North Korea Discussed**
During the meeting, Zelensky and Iwaya talked about a number of important issues affecting Ukraine. They discussed Japan‘s concerns about North Korean troops being stationed along Ukraine’s eastern border. This is because some North Korean soldiers were reportedly involved in fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
**Japan Supports Ukraine**
Iwaya said that “Japan stands with Ukraine.” He echoed the Group of Seven (G7) countries, who recently reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and threatened severe consequences for Russia. Iwaya also emphasized Japan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ukraine, including economic cooperation and additional sanctions against Russia.
**”Peace Formula” Discussed**
Zelensky and Iwaya discussed Ukraine’s “Peace Formula” as well as Zelensky’s five-point victory plan. Iwaya said that Japan supports the early realization of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, as set out in the victory plan.
