**Ukraine‘s Military Strength**
President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine has 980,000 people in arms. This makes the Ukrainian army the largest in Europe.
Zelensky mentioned that France, which comes second, has about 200,000 soldiers. He believes this number is four times smaller than Ukraine’s.
**Ukraine Faces Criticism**
However, some critics think Ukraine needs more soldiers to fight against Russia. They say a manpower shortage and a disjointed mobilization process are partly to blame.
The Ukrainian government lowered the age for military service from 27 to 25 in April. But they resisted international calls to lower it further to 18.
**Russia’s Military Actions**
In recent days, Russian forces have launched several attacks on Ukraine. They used cruise missiles and drones to target settlements across the country.
Ukraine reported that around 49% of these targets were hit by kamikaze drones.
**Casualties Mount**
Overnight, Ukrainian forces downed 61 out of 103 drones launched by Russia. Another 42 drones were lost in the attack.
Russia suffered over 1,730 casualties just over the past day. This is a significant number, and it highlights the intensity of the fighting.
**International Reactions**
The United States is planning to impose sanctions on tankers carrying Russian oil above a price cap. They are also targeting individuals involved in schemes to sell crude oil above the cap.
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.
