**Ukraine President Clarifies Peacekeeper Comment**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has clarified his earlier statement about the number of European peacekeepers needed to maintain peace in Ukraine. He said that the required numbers would depend on the size of Ukraine’s own military.
**Earlier Statement Misunderstood**
Zelensky made headlines when he told a journalist at the World Economic Forum in Davos that at least 200,000 European soldiers were needed for a stable peace deal. However, Zelensky now says this was misinterpreted.
**Contingent Size to Depend on Ukrainian Military**
In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Zelensky explained that if Ukraine struggles to maintain a large army, other troops would need to replace them in similar numbers. He said that the cheapest way towards stable peace for both Ukraine and the West is for Ukraine to join NATO.
**Leaders Support Peacekeeping Efforts**
Zelensky has been in contact with European leaders about the prospects of a peacekeeping mission. French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have expressed support for this initiative, as well as US President Donald Trump.
