**Zelensky Criticizes G20 Leaders for Weak Stance on Ukraine War**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) countries for their weak stance on Russia’s war in Ukraine. In a statement made on November 23, after the recent summit in Brazil, Zelensky said that Brazilian President Lula da Silva showed a “weak position” on the issue.
The G20 includes Russia among its members, and some countries have helped Russia economically during its invasion of Ukraine. Despite divisions among member nations regarding the war in Ukraine and the Middle East, negotiators were able to reach a consensus on a final communiqué that condemned human suffering caused by both wars.
However, critics say that the communiqué is too weak, as it does not directly condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine. The statement uses ambiguous language, only referencing “human suffering” caused by the war without naming Russia specifically. In contrast to last year’s declaration from New Delhi, which had seven paragraphs on the war in Ukraine, this year’s statement has just one paragraph on the issue.
**Zelensky Speaks Out**
“If we want good relations between our nations and peoples, then we should support people first, not aggressors,” Zelensky said. He added that a lack of strong condemnation by G20 leaders allowed Russia to continue its aggression in Ukraine, including the use of new weapons like intermediate-range ballistic missiles.
**G20 Communiqué Criticized**
The Presidential Office in Ukraine has also criticized the G20’s stance on the war in Ukraine, saying that it will only lead to “mere stalling tactics and further intimidation by Russia.” The statement comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to escalate, with Russia using new weapons like intermediate-range ballistic missiles against Ukrainian cities.
