**Ukraine’s President Disputes Reports of 80,000 Soldier Deaths**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disputed reports that up to 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia. In an interview with Kyodo News, he said that this number is “less, much less” than reported.
The Wall Street Journal had previously estimated that 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died, with a further 400,000 wounded. However, Ukrainian lawmakers quickly disputed these claims, suggesting that the true figure could be around 50,000.
**Estimates of Ukraine’s Military Casualties Vary**
Zelensky’s comments come as various sources have estimated different numbers of Ukrainian soldier deaths. The Economist has reported that between 60,000 to 100,000 soldiers have been killed, while the General Staff of Ukraine‘s Armed Forces puts Russian overall losses at nearly 744,000.
**Russia’s Losses Continue to Rise**
Russia’s losses in the war continue to mount. Mediazona and BBC Russia have identified the names of 80,973 Russian soldiers who died during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine as of November 29. Daily Russian casualties have also reached record highs, with over 2,000 soldiers killed each day.
**Zelensky Calls for Negotiations**
President Zelensky emphasized that the war cannot be resolved on the battlefield and that a solution must be sought at the negotiating table. He made this statement during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has promised to deliver 650 million euros worth of arms to Ukraine.
