Russia has greatly reduced its troop presence in a region called Transnistria.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia had around 5,500-6,000 troops in the area. However, now there are only between 1,000 and 1,500 Russian soldiers left.
Zelensky said that Russia removed several thousand of its troops from Transnistria to help with their invasion of Ukraine. He also stated that the remaining Russian troops no longer guard the region as they did before. Instead, they are now protecting warehouses containing weapons.
The removal of Russian troops was likely done through planes via the city of Chisinau.
