**Ukraine President Sees Hope in Meeting with US Envoy**
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said he saw hope after meeting with US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg on February 20. The two leaders discussed ways to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Zelensky met with Kellogg earlier that day as part of Washington’s efforts to broker a resolution in the conflict. The president said that the talks were “a meeting that restores hope” and expressed his desire for strong agreements between America and Ukraine.
**Tensions Between US and Ukraine Eased**
The visit by Kellogg came on the heels of increased tensions between the US and Ukraine. Ukraine was not invited to a recent meeting between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia, which caused an outcry from Zelensky.
US President Donald Trump has been at odds with Ukraine’s president, accusing him of being a “dictator” and making false claims about his approval rating. Zelensky fired back, saying he wanted more truth from the US team.
**Kellogg’s Visit**
Kellogg arrived in Ukraine on February 19, saying he came to listen to Kyiv’s concerns and report back to the White House. He met with top Ukrainian military and government officials during his visit.
While there was no joint press briefing after the meeting, Zelensky spoke about the talks, saying they focused on front-line developments, prisoners of war in Russian captivity, and Ukraine’s need for long-term security guarantees.
**Ukraine Wants Peace**
Zelensky emphasized that everyone wants peace, not just Ukraine. He said, “We all need peace: Ukraine, Europe, America, everyone in the world.”
