**Ukraine‘s President Appoints New Ground Forces Commander**
President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed General Mykhailo Drapatyi as Ukraine’s new Ground Forces commander. This change was announced on November 29.
General Drapatyi is expected to take over from Oleksandr Pavliuk, who has been in the position since February this year. President Zelensky praised General Drapatyi for his success in organizing the defense of the Kharkiv sector and disrupting Russian offensives.
**Who is General Drapatyi?**
General Drapatyi has a military background that goes back several years. He commanded Ukraine’s 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade from 2016 to 2019. More recently, he headed the “Kharkiv” operational grouping of troops since May and the “Luhansk” operational and tactical group of forces since September.
