**Ukraine‘s President Offers to Buy US Weapons with Frozen Russian Assets**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered a proposal to the United States. He wants to use frozen Russian assets, worth $300 billion, to buy American weapons.
In an interview with a popular American podcaster, Lex Fridman, Zelensky said that this is one of the security guarantees he’s offering. The money from the frozen Russian assets would be used for Ukraine’s own production, and then they would buy all the necessary weapons from the US.
Zelensky believes that this plan will be good for both countries. It will help the US by putting money into their industry, and it will also help Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
This proposal comes at a time when there is debate about how much the US should spend on supporting Ukraine. Some people in the US have been critical of giving too much aid to Ukraine. But President-elect Donald Trump’s team has not commented on Zelensky’s proposal yet.
Zelensky and Trump met recently, and they seem to be building a positive relationship despite past disagreements. Zelensky even said that he thinks Trump is strong and smart, which helped him win the US presidential election.
It’s worth noting that Zelensky previously suggested that Ukraine should do everything it can to end the war through diplomatic means by 2025. He also thought that a war would be shorter if Trump was in charge of the US.
