**Russia Prepares to Attack Ukraine’s Northeast**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned of a possible Russian attack on the country’s northeastern Sumy region. He said that Russia is amassing its forces at the border, with the aim of launching an attack.
Zelensky made his comments on March 15 in a post on Telegram. He stated that Ukraine had observed areas along its eastern border where the Russian army was gathering its forces. “This speaks to a desire to deliver a strike to our Sumy Oblast,” he wrote.
**Diplomatic Efforts Unsuccessful**
The Ukrainian president also expressed frustration at Russia’s refusal to engage in diplomacy. He noted that US diplomats had recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a ceasefire, but no agreement was reached. Zelensky criticized Putin for being “maximalist” in his demands.
**Stabilization on the Pokrovsk Front**
Zelensky also reported that the situation on the Pokrovsk front had stabilized after several months of fighting. The city in Donetsk Oblast had been at the center of periodic threats of Russian encirclement, but this threat is now no longer present.
**Russian Advances in Kursk Oblast**
More recently, Russia has made significant advances in Kursk Oblast, a territory that Ukrainian forces took control of in August. However, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief has refuted reports that Ukrainian troops were under threat of encirclement in the area.
