**Ukraine’s President Teases Personnel Changes**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on December 28 that his team is preparing “several important personnel decisions” which will be announced soon. This comes after meetings with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
Zelensky made the announcement through his official Telegram channel, but did not provide any further details about the departments or officials that would be affected by these changes. The president has been making significant personnel changes in recent years, including a major government reshuffle earlier this year and replacing Ukraine’s top military leadership in February 2024.
**Russia-Ukraine Conflict**
The announcement comes amidst ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Russian forces have suffered heavy losses, with over 785,000 troops killed or wounded since the invasion began in February 2022. Ukraine has also been hit by Russian attacks on power plants and infrastructure, leading to concerns about emergency power supplies.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that his government would consider reciprocal measures against Ukraine if it stops transit of Russian gas after January 1. Zelensky responded by urging China to use its influence over North Korea to prevent the deployment of North Korean soldiers to the frontline.
**Aid Package for Ukraine**
The US is expected to send a new aid package to Ukraine, including air defense munitions, Stinger missiles, and artillery rounds. The package is expected to be substantial and will help Ukraine defend itself against Russian attacks.
**Humanitarian Efforts**
Ukraine’s Deputy Education Minister Nadiia Kuzmychova announced that there are currently 79 underground education facilities under active construction. This effort aims to provide safe learning spaces for students during the ongoing conflict.
