Ukraine Aims to Join EU by 2029, But It Won’t Be Easy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has a big goal. He wants Ukraine to open all negotiating groups with the European Union by 2025. This is an important step towards joining the EU.
The EU says Ukraine can join by 2029 if it completes some key reforms. These reforms are needed to meet EU standards. The EU is pleased with Ukraine’s progress in areas like fair justice and fighting corruption. However, more work needs to be done.
Ukraine sent a detailed plan for reform in March. This plan shows how the country wants to rebuild and modernize itself as part of the EU. The EU Commission has been monitoring Ukraine’s progress closely.
In June 2022, Ukraine was given candidate status by the EU. Later that year, the EU decided to start talks with Ukraine about joining the bloc. The European Council officially approved this decision in November 2023.
