**Ukraine Discusses Fate of Occupied Territories with US**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that the country discussed the fate of its Russian-occupied territories with the United States during talks in Saudi Arabia earlier this week.
Zelensky’s comments come after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the US. Russia had demanded guarantees not to mobilize troops or receive military aid from the West before agreeing to a ceasefire.
**Territorial Concessions Discussed**
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that the talks between Ukraine and the US included discussions about potential “territorial concessions” as part of a negotiated settlement with Russia. However, Zelensky emphasized that these territories were not on the meeting’s agenda.
“The American side goes into details,” Zelensky said. “For example, the city of Enerhodar… You can’t just say: here’s the (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power) Plant, and the city is separate.”
**Control over Nuclear Plant Discussed**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that discussions about occupied territories were not on the agenda of the talks between Ukraine and the US. However, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Enerhodar was discussed during the talks.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is Europe’s largest nuclear plant and has been under Russian occupation since 2022. It remains under Russian control but is not currently generating electricity due to repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
**Reports of Human Rights Abuses**
Russian forces occupy roughly 20% of Ukraine, where reports of systematic repression, torture, and forced deportations regularly emerge. Ukraine and its allies have repeatedly urged Russia to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories.
