**Ukraine Not Ready to Sign Mineral Resource Agreement with US**
President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Ukraine is not yet ready to sign a mineral resource agreement with the United States. He made this statement at a news conference at the Munich Security Conference.
Zelensky said that he did not allow Ukrainian ministers to sign the agreement because it was not in Ukraine’s best interest. The US had proposed obtaining 50% of Ukraine’s rare minerals and was open to deploying American troops to guard them if there was a deal with Russia to end the war.
**US Proposal**
The US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, had delivered a draft of the agreement to Zelensky during a visit to Kyiv. However, Zelensky refused to sign it, saying that he needed to study it and consult with others. He also expressed concerns about investments in Ukraine and the need for legal experts to examine them.
**No Security Guarantees**
Zelensky emphasized that there were no security guarantees in the proposed agreement. He said that signing the agreement was not in Ukraine’s interest today and that the country needed to know that it would work positively for both countries, bring profit and security for Ukraine.
**Ukraine’s Resources**
Zelensky concluded by saying that Ukraine’s resources are not its own but belong to the people of the country. He emphasized the importance of protecting these resources and making sure they benefit the Ukrainian people.
