Ukraine Agrees to Get More Military Aid and Intelligence Help from Europe
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on March 28 that Ukraine is close to finalizing agreements with European countries for more military aid and intelligence sharing. This comes ahead of the next meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (UDCG) in Brussels.
Zelensky said that Ukraine has reached agreements with some European countries to get access to their ammunition stockpiles, air defense systems, and artillery production facilities. He also said that Ukraine will get investments for producing its own drones and missiles.
The agreements were made at the Paris summit on March 27, where several European countries agreed to send troops to Ukraine as part of a “reassurance force” in case of a ceasefire with Russia.
European officials have promised to help Ukraine expand its access to intelligence data, technologies, and satellites owned by their countries. This is significant because the US had temporarily stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine earlier this year.
The next meeting of the UDCG will be held on April 11 in Brussels and will be chaired by the UK.
Ukraine’s military received a boost when France announced it would provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth 2 billion euros ($2.1 billion).
Zelensky also said that several European countries have agreed to move forward with plans to send troops to Ukraine as part of a “reassurance force” in case of a ceasefire with Russia.
The commitments from allies come as Ukrainian, British, and French general staff representatives prepare to hold a meeting in Ukraine within a week to discuss the potential deployment of foreign troops to the country.
