**Ukraine Receives First Batch of New Missile-Drone Hybrid**
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced on December 6 that the country‘s Armed Forces have received their first batch of a new missile-drone hybrid called Peklo (Hell). The weapon is designed to provide an alternative to Western arms whose use is often restricted.
**New Missile-Drone Hybrid Has Proven Combat Effectiveness**
Zelensky said in a social media post that the aim now is to “scale up production and deployment” of the Peklo system. He highlighted its proven combat effectiveness, without revealing the number of supplied weapons. The officials reported that the system has already been successfully deployed five times.
**Key Features of the Peklo System**
The Peklo missile-drone hybrid has a range of 700 kilometers (430 miles) and a speed of 700 km/h (430 mph). It also has artificial intelligence capability for autonomous targeting, making it a “fundamentally new type” of weapon. The officials noted that the missiles are cost-effective and rival some Russian cruise missiles in performance.
**Ukraine’s Defense Strategy**
The Peklo system is seen as critical to Ukraine’s defense strategy, providing an alternative to Western arms whose use is often restricted. Long-range domestic weapons like the Peklo will help strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities.
