The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will present his victory strategy at the next leader-level meeting in Germany of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on October 12.
“We will present a victory plan – clear, concrete steps to a just conclusion of the war.” Zelensky wrote that the determination of our partners, and the strengthening Ukraine can stop Russian aggression.
The Ukraine Defense Contact Group, led by the United States, is a group of over 50 countries including all 32 NATO member states that meets at the U.S. Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The group’s last meeting in Ramstein on Sept. 6, was its 24th since it was established in April 2022.
The next Ramstein meeting will mark the first time that a meeting of leaders has been held. Zeensky was in attendance at the 24th meeting, where he secured more military assistance from allies including the U.S.A., U.K. Germany and Canada.
Zelensky presented his five-point strategy to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden during his visit to the U.S. at the White House in late September. He also discussed the plan with presidential candidates Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and members of Congress.
The peace plan has military and diplomatic components, including Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership, but the full details have not been released. According to Kyiv the goal is bolstering Ukraine’s negotiation position and pressuring Russia to agree to a just peaceful settlement.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, said that on October 2, the U.S. State Department had reviewed Ukraine’s Victory Plan and identified “a number” of productive steps there.
“The victory plan presented by Ukraine is not only a question of actions taken by Ukraine.” Miller said that it’s a matter of actions other countries would also take.
