**Ukraine’s Zelensky Comments on US Easing Restrictions on Long-Range Strikes**
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement on November 17 about recent reports that the US has eased restrictions on long-range strikes within Russia. According to Zelensky, “such things are not announced.”
The New York Times reported earlier this month that the Biden administration had allowed the use of U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles across the border, targeting Russian and North Korean forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
**”Missiles Will Speak for Themselves”**
Zelensky commented on the situation saying: “Today, there’s a lot of talk in the media about us receiving permission for respective actions. But strikes are not carried out with words. Such things are not announced. Missiles will speak for themselves.”
The US decision would mark a significant shift in policy, as President Joe Biden had previously been hesitant to allow Western-supplied weapons to be used on Russian soil.
**A Shift in US Policy**
President Biden initially eased restrictions in May to allow Ukraine to use certain weaponry like HIMARS to strike at Russian troops across the border. Restrictions on ATACMS, tactical ballistic missiles with a range of 300 kilometers (190 miles), remained in place until now.
**Uncertainty Ahead**
It remains unclear whether President-elect Donald Trump will uphold this new policy after taking office in January 2025.
