**Ukraine Sends Wheat Flour to Syria**
On December 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine sent 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria. This move comes after the fall of Bashar al–Assad’s regime.
**Renewing Diplomatic Ties**
Ukraine had severed diplomatic relations with Syria in 2022 when Assad’s regime recognized Russia’s control over parts of Donbas. Now, with the previous Syrian government gone, Ukraine hopes to renew diplomatic ties with Damascus.
**Humanitarian Aid**
The wheat flour was sent as part of Ukraine’s humanitarian program, “Grain from Ukraine,” in cooperation with the World Food Programme. President Zelenskyy said that each package can feed a family of five for a month and will be distributed to 33,250 families, or 167,000 people.
**Wishes for Syria**
Zelenskyy wished Syria and its people safety, stability, and recovery. He emphasized the value of these things after years of conflict.
