President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that Russia’s use of Shahed Drones has increased significantly. They have deployed approximately ten-times more of these weapons compared to autumn 2023.
In October 2024 Russian forces used 2,023 unidentified drones and attack drones of the Shahed and type against civilian and military targets.
Every night, the Russian forces launch dozens of “kamikazes” – usually Iranian-designed Shahed131 or 136 drones. They also often launch several missiles at the same time.
Zelenskyy stated, “We have to fully combat them.” During a meeting with the Supreme Commander in Chief’s Staff. ” The President emphasized several measures, including “strengthening the air defense in regions that need it the most, developing new options in the fight against KABs and strengthening mobile fire groups.”
The president also reviewed contracts for the current year and plans for next year.
“We looked at 3-5-year contracts that we offered Ukrainian manufacturers of strategic drones. Zelenskyy stated that manufacturers need a long-term planning horizon, as well as development and investment.
Zelenskyy stated in August that Ukrainian forces had used the Palianytsia, a missile-drone against Russian forces for the first Independence Day. Later, the Minister of Digital Transformation stated that a “Palianytsia”, which costs less than $1,000,000, is available.
