Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with key US political figures next week, including President Joe Biden, Republican candidate Donald Trump, and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. The main focus of these meetings will be Zelenskyy’s presentation of what he calls the “Victory Plan,” according to statements from Zelenskyy and reports from various sources.
During his daily address to the nation on September 18th, Zelenskyy announced that the Victory Plan is now fully prepared. He stated, “All points, key accents, and necessary details have been defined. Everything has been worked out.” Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of implementing the plan, stating, “There is no alternative to peace, no freezing of the war, or any other manipulations that will simply transfer Russian aggression to another stage.”
Previously, on September 16th, Zelenskyy claimed that the Victory Plan was 90% ready. The following day, he announced that the plan would have a “strong” military component. However, specific details of the plan have not been disclosed, and there has been no public debate on the matter.
According to Bloomberg, which cites unnamed sources, Zelenskyy is expected to push for NATO and European Union membership, economic and security agreements, and continued supply of more advanced weapons during his meetings in the US. He is set to present the plan to Biden during their meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly later this month.
Kamala Harris, who has been a strong supporter of Biden’s unwavering support for Ukraine, is also scheduled to meet with Zelenskyy in Washington next week, according to Bloomberg’s sources.
In a notable development, Trump, who has consistently described US aid to Ukraine as a waste of money, confirmed on September 18th that he may also meet with Zelenskyy. When asked by a reporter, he responded, “Probably, yes.” This potential meeting is significant as Trump and Zelenskyy have not met in person since Trump’s term as president from 2017 to 2021.
