Ukraine’s domestic drone manufacturing has reached a new level. President Zelenskyy reported the delivery of a million units to the front.
In his evening video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that one million drones bought with state funds were delivered to the frontlines as of mid-October.
Drones have become a valuable asset for Ukrainian forces. They provide reconnaissance, help with targeting, and can strike Russian positions.
Ukraine has expanded its domestic drone manufacturing to meet battlefield demand. It has developed a range of unmanned aircraft, from small commercial models up to larger combat drones.
Zelenskyy was given a report by his strategic advisor Oleksandr Kamyshin on 14 October, which covered the production of Ukrainian weapons and the supply of army equipment.
“A million drones have been purchased at public expense and are being delivered to the front today.” Zelenskyy stated that the state only does this.
The president stated that volunteers and other supporters are supplying additional supplies.
Zelenskyy stressed the intention to increase these supplies with the primary aim of using technological advances.
Zelenskyy announced at the press conference summarizing the year 2023 that Ukraine will increase production of UAVs, artillery and 155mm shells in 2024.
On 25 July, the President said that Ukraine was developing missile capabilities and preparing measures regarding long-range drones.
According to the Ministry of Strategic Industries, Ukraine can produce three million drones per year.
Zelenskyy announced to the Ukrainian public on 6 August that he had already secured contracts for 1 million drones for 2024.
